Ulverston's Virtual VE Day
Music and Memories:
Brass Bands would normally be at the heart of VE day anniversary celebrations all across the country, unfortunately these events have all been cancelled. Ulverston Town Band along with members of other brass bands across Furness and South Lakes and brass players from Ulverston Victoria High School will still be honouring those lost in the 2nd World War by playing the Last Post from their doorsteps, gardens, drives and bedroom windows. The Last Post is traditionally played by a bugler or a cornet player in the brass band, this year as the bands cannot be together we are encouraging all players to play if they wish so listen out for Tenor Horns, Baritones, Euphoniums, Trombones and even Tubas. Please join in if you can in a 2 minutes silence at 11am.
Flags, floodlighting and a Cry for Peace
Hoad Monument will be lit in red white and blue from Friday evening until Sunday evening and the Union flag will be raised on Friday Saturday and Sunday evening. The Town Mayor Cllr Sharon Webster and the High Sherriff - Mrs Julie Barton will privately lay flowers at the war memorial over the weekend. The Town Crier will read a virtual Cry for Peace which will be available on YouTube and the town councils website.
The town council has arranged for flowers to be placed on the War Memorial of our twin Town Albert in France for the VE day commemoration
