Public Toilets and the Ulverston Courtesy Toilet Scheme

The town council manage one public convenience in Ulverston near to the Gill Car Park which is at the start of the famous Cumbria Way long distance walk to Carlisle from the Cumbria Way Marker Sculpture, designed by local artisan blacksmith Chris Brammall.

The toilets cost circa 8,000 per year to maintain, repair, insure and clean, together with water and electricity bills, plus rates. Local conveniences are not exempt from business rates. The cost is very high which is why the council has to make a charge of 20 pence to ensure that it remain open. The charge does not cover all of the operational costs, and currently the council is receiving a grant from SLDC.

Other toilets are available to use courtesy of local business owners and the full details of these together with a map of where they are is available here.
